We acknowledge that this project was created on stolen land. The Ohio River Valley, central to this book, is the ancestral land of the Shawandasse Tula (Shawnee), Delaware (Lenni Lenape), Potawatomi, Myaamia (Miami), Wyandot, Seneca, Chippewa (Ojibwe or Anishinaabeg), Ottawa, Wapakoneta, and other Indigenous Nations. "Ohio" originates from the Iroquoian word ohi-yo, meaning “good rivers.” Through this acknowledgment, we honor the land's original stewards and pay respect to Indigenous Nations, their elders, and descendants.
